Martin “Mo” Morales and his wife Carrie have been married for 18 years and have two beautiful children, Carissa and Cade. Mo is a Captain for Houston Fire Department and been a firefighter for 17 years. Mo started CrossFit in 2010 when a rookie in the fire department invited him to join him in a CrossFit workout. Mo is an experienced personal trainer and spent most of his career working in and coaching at traditional “global gyms”. Once Mo did his first CrossFit workout he was hooked and hasn’t looked back since. Mo enjoys coaching CrossFit because he loves to see the transition in our athletes as they grow in confidence and he watches athletes complete workouts they once thought about they couldn’t achieve. Mo’s favorite workouts are Murph and Clovis because both workouts demand mental toughness.

Yes grandchildren , I have 6 Gboys and 1 Granddaughter/Princess. Been married for 32 years to my beautiful better half Velma and father to 3 absolutely beautiful daughters ( they all take after their moma) . I’m a huge family man and this is what I love about CrossFit/BLCF, the community the camaraderie. I’ve been coaching for 7 years and enjoy helping members begin their journey and accomplishing their goals. I thrive off that and I’m a huge cheerleader when it comes to that. I’m very vocal when it comes to them hitting a PR. I get very excited lol. Aside from coaching, I love to do all OLY lifts especially teaching/breaking down the movements so that members can perform them correct and safely. Martin lives in Bridgeland with his wife and their 5 children. His regular 9-5 is working as a designer in the Oil and Gas Industry. Sports and fitness have always been a part of Martin’s life; beginning with youth sports ultimately continuing with football and track through High School. Guided by his father’s love for Bodybuilding, he grew up in the gym working out with him. Martin’s athleticism contributed to his success in the Marines where he served as a Rescue Swimmer and as a Marine Raider. He was first introduced to CrossFit back in 2015 by one of his Marine Brothers. To Martin; CrossFit was exactly what he wanted and needed, the structure, camaraderie, competition and the positive effect it has had on his mental health. He quickly earned his CF L1 and started coaching. Since then, he has earned his PN L1 in nutrition coaching and a certificate to coach Powerlifting, along with other fitness certificates and continuing education. His love for coaching comes from watching his athletes and his children (all 5 do CrossFit) achieve things they never thought they could. Martin’s favorite movements are the Snatch, Clean and Jerk, all Squats and Handstand Push-Ups. His least favorite is running. In his spare time Martin loves to hunt and fish.

Q. What’s your day job?
A statistics professor at the University of Houston
Q. Who’s your family?
Wife (Beth, married 22 years); older son Chris (age 19, a sophomore at Auburn University); younger son Matthew (age 15, a sophomore at Cypress Woods HS); dog Maddie (age 12)
Q. How long have you done CrossFit?
My first on-ramp class was August 5, 2013.
Q. Why do you coach CrossFit?
Sarcastic answer: to pay for shoes and race entry fees. Serious answer: because it’s often the best part of my day. It gets me away from my desk, and I look forward to interacting with my athletes (even at 5 AM) and the other coaches.
Q. What motivates you the most?
Struggle. I’m a “growth mindset” person both at work and at play. I like to identify a weakness, work on it until it’s a strength, and then move on to the next weakness.
Q. What is your favorite quote?
Here are three: “Adversity has the effect of drawing out strength and qualities of a man that would have lain dormant in its absence” (Herodotus). “Adversity is the state in which man most easily becomes acquainted with himself, being especially free of admirers then” (John Wooden). “Those who understand others are clever; those who understand themselves are wise. Those who control others are strong; those who control themselves are mighty” (Lao Tzu).
Q. What is your favorite workout?
The hero WOD “DVB” combines three of my favorite things: running, wall-balls, and rope climbs.

PJ and her husband Martin have been married 15 years and have a daughter, Alex, and son Anthony. A friend convinced her to try CF in 2013 …..she hasn’t looked back. PJ walked into her first CrossFit Box in during the CrossFit Open and was overwhelmed by the immense about of support she saw for athletes cheering on other athletes. After spending her life as a dancer, she hit the gym with various personal trainers but needed a regimen she felt more connected to. Her aspirations to inspire and help the Box family gain knowledge of health and longevity, along with her business background paved the way to owning BLCF. Her favorite workout is Fight Gone Bad, she likes weightlifting and conditioning. She loves the camaraderie of the fitness community, the laughter and also watching the transformations in all she has the pleasure of coaching.
